Fox Fungal Nail Laser

Fox Fungal Nail Laser

Yellow, thick and deformed nails will be a thing of the past with Foot Lab Podiatry’s state of the art technology fungal ‘Fox Laser’

Fungal nail, also known as Onychomycosis, has affected approximately 1.6 million Australians. The fungal infection can spread rapidly to other toes if left untreated. Symptoms may include white or yellow nail discoloration, thickening of the nail, and separation of the nail from the nail bed.
At Foot Lab Podiatry in Prestons, we can help restore your nail health and cure your fungal nails. We do not just treat the condition we treat the cause too.

How does the nail laser work?

The Nail Laser heats the nail bed enough to kill the enzyme causing the nail fungus, promoting healthy nail growth. The skin below the nail bed can conduct heat away as it is delivered and so while the treatment may feel hot, it will not burn your skin below or around the nail. The laser produces heat that may feel uncomfortable and can be adjusted to your level of comfort.
Research shows that the nail laser is 70-83% effective after a single treatment. Success of the treatment also depends on patient compliance to all advise and recommendations provided.

A fungal nail treatment includes:

  • An initial nail assessment and diagnostic test to determine if fungal nail is present
  • A history taking to determine the cause and education of the risk factors/causes of fungal nail infection
  • Nail care including: Cutting back the affected nail, filling down the nail as much as possible using a podiatry drill to optimise results
  • A fungal laser treatment on affected toenails

What can you expect during the treatment?

The laser light which produces the heat is moved evenly over the nail in a grid pattern. It will take 3-4 passes to complete the treatment to each nail, taking approximately 1-3 minutes per nail, a total of around 15 minutes. Even the healthy looking nails get treated. Microscopic colonies may be present on other nails and all nails on the feet will be included with the nail treatment. Patients report a heat sensation under the nail directly underneath where the laser is passing. This is often felt more on the second or third passes.
