Diabetes
Diabetes mellitus is a condition characterised by high sugar levels in the blood either by type 1 diabetes (failure of the pancreas in producing insulin) or type 2 (the body has a resistance to insulin).
As the feet are the furthest body part away from the heart, blood flow and sensation in a diabetic patient can be reduced leading to impaired healing. Uncontrolled diabetes can lead peripheral neuropathy (nerve damage to your feet), increase in falls risk, foot ulcerations and foot amputations.
