About diabetic foot screening
If you have diabetes, you’re at a higher risk for a variety of foot health problems (including infections and injuries). These problems are often due to nerve damage and poor blood flow. To stop these problems from getting worse (or prevent most of them in the first place), we can conduct a diabetic foot screening for you, which involves the following:
- A full neurovascular assessment of the feet (assessing blood flow using a doppler)
- A test on the nerve sensation in the feet using a 10gram monofilament and 128Hz vibrating tuning fork
- An observational assessment of the skin and nails looking for potential pressure areas, wounds and maceration
- A risk status report based on the findings
- Referrals to GP and other health professionals
A timely diabetic foot screening can help prevent problems.
